Air conditioners and some types of local heating circulate dry air and significantly reduce the level of humidity in the premises. Dry air has an adverse effect on human health and can cause drying of the nasal mucosa, irritation and/or drying of the skin, as well as the appearance of various allergies. Excessive air humidity promotes the development of bacteria and viruses, and also dries out the hair and skin.
1. Prevention against flu-like symptoms. Study authors note that humidifiers may reduce the risk of catching the flu. The researchers found that humidity levels above 40 percent quickly inactivated virus particles, making them much less likely to be infectious.
2. Increasing the amount of moisture in the air can reduce snoring. If the air is dry, a person's airways are less likely to be sufficiently lubricated, which can make snoring worse. Running a humidifier at night can help relieve some symptoms.
3. Keeping skin and hair hydrated. Some people notice that their skin, lips and hair become dry and brittle during the winter. Many types of heaters pump hot, dry air through the house or office, which can make skin dry, itchy or flaky. The cold air outside can also dry out the skin. Using a humidifier to add moisture to indoor air can help reduce the appearance of dry, cracked skin.
Оптималното ниво на влажност в дома е 40-60%.
